This 27th of July 2018 marks two important events; one is Guru Purnima, and the other, the Lunar Eclipse. About 2 to 5 Lunar Eclipses happen through every year; however, this Lunar Eclipse is unique. It is the longest of the 21st century, one of a kind in 104 years.
Guru Purnima is mostly observed in India, Nepal and among Nepali Buddhists and Jains, from the historic times. It is in honor, respect and remembrance to the Gurus, the Masters, Leaders, and teachers. Guru Purnima is observed on the full moon in the Hindu month of Ashadha.
This Lunar Eclipse is also called an observable fact of ‘Blood Moon’. The moon will appear red, a little brownish rust red in color, the color of blood, therefore the name ‘Blood Moon’. Some rays spread and reach the moon through the Earth’s atmosphere. This phenomenon contributes to the moon to look red.
The 27th July Lunar Eclipse will start from 11:54 pm and will end at 3:49 am of the 28th July, IST; the total duration being 3 hours and 55 minutes. Unlike the Solar Eclipse, Lunar Eclipse can be viewed easily with the naked eyes. The peak eclipse will be for one hour and 43 minutes.
A Lunar Eclipse happens when the Earth comes in-between the Sun and the moon when the three celestial bodies are aligned. The Sun rays are blocked by the Earth on the moon.
A Lunar Eclipse can have a different meaning, connotation, and myth in different religions, regions, and in their respective beliefs and Astrology systems. It is mostly overall considered inauspicious. This Lunar Eclipse will exactly start in the afternoon, 2pm IST. According to the Indian mythology and Astrology, it is advised to avoid eating food at this time. Also, the use of needle and sharp items should be avoided. Pregnant women are advised not to go out. Many Hindus take a dip in the holy river Ganga, the Ganges.
Certain environmental disturbances can take place during the Lunar Eclipse. Some are like unusual ocean-sea water tides and higher levels, which can be particularly dangerous for the ships-sailors and the coastal areas; some believe that the chances of natural disasters increase.
In Astrology, natives most affected by Lunar Eclipse are the ones in whose horoscope the moon is present in at that time. These natives have to face certain disturbances-troubles. At this time the moon is present in the Capricorn sign. Lunar Eclipse can have a negative, neutral or positive impact on other signs.
